In this latest message to my guests, I’d like to tell you about a private film festival I’ve created exclusively for the guests of the Carmel Retreats cottages. It all began with a few ideas shared by past guests…

Sometime earlier this year, a guest told me she rented The Sandpiper a 1965 Hollywood movie starring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton - and enjoyed it not only as a great old-time classic, but especially so because of the many scenes filmed in and around Carmel. Not long after that, another guest told me he watched From Here to Eternity and then took his wife down to the beach to re-enact the famous love scene between Barbara Kerr and Burt Lancaster (seen in the pic above). Talk about romantic! That’s when a little bell went off in my head. I’ll bet some of my other guests would enjoy watching these old Hollywood classics too! I gathered ten of the best films I could find - starring greats like James Dean, Humphrey Bogart, Cary Grant, Clint Eastwood, Alfred Hitchcock, and more - and bought them for my guests so they could snuggle up under a cozy throw blanket and enjoy them whenever they felt like it in the comfort of their own private cottage in Carmel.

I call it “Barry’s Private Carmel Film Festival” - an exclusive collection of Hollywood classics filmed in and around Carmel for the guests of our Carmel Retreats cottages. You can thank my guests for this idea. I’ve now made them available for all of my guests to watch for free with the touch of a button on their TV remote.
